Day 5 inaugural motorcycle transam: Columbia, TN – Cape Girardeau, MO: Crossing the Mighty Mississippi

Day 5 wasn’t the same kind of challenge as yesterday, but it was still a beautiful ride! The route took us along long sweeping roads lined with trees and fields, winding alongside rivers like the Ohio, and finally across the mighty Mississippi as we rolled into Cape Girardeau. It may have been easier terrain, but it was still a long day for some. A few riders faced major mechanical issues ranging from cylinder problems to pushrods snapping completely in half. Even with the setbacks, spirits stayed high and we’re confident we’ll see those riders back on the road in no time.

One highlight of the day was Bart Grelinger’s determination. He ran into trouble right away at the start, but he refused to get on the sweep truck. He was set on fixing his bike and finishing the stage to earn his points. True to his word, he made it, rolling in as the very last rider, crossing the beautiful bridge and passing through the arch into Cape Girardeau. What a moment!

Cape Girardeau welcomed us with open arms and put on an incredible show. The town hosted a classic car show, another motorcycle show, and brought in food trucks to keep everyone fueled up. They even treated us to a delicious meal in a building overlooking the Mississippi. It was the perfect way to end the day, with great food, new friends, and a view that can’t be beat.

Now we rest up and get ready for Stage 6 as the TransAm heads into Branson, MO tomorrow.
