Day 9 inaugural motorcycle transam: Dodge City, KS – Trinidad, CO: Welcome to the Rockies

Stage 9 of the Motorcycle TransAm took us 272 miles from Dodge City, KS to Trinidad, CO. The riders left behind the straight, flat roads of Kansas and eastern Colorado and started climbing into long hills with mountains rising in the distance. The landscape is changing, and you can feel we’re on the edge of something big, hello, Rockies!

The ride was anything but dull. Along the way, riders spotted all kinds of wildlife, from pronghorn to rattlesnakes to coyotes. It made for quite the eventful day.

We only had one poor soul on the sweep truck today, but let me tell you, he is no loser. He never quits. His bike was back in the pits tonight getting fixed up so he can be on that start line tomorrow. That’s the grit this event is all about, working late into the night, even when exhausted, just to make sure the miles get done. It’s inspiring to watch.

Rolling into Trinidad was a real treat. The riders parked their machines in the incredible Space to Create, a community hub that welcomed us with open arms. The excitement in the room was contagious, everyone wanted to see the bikes, hear the stories, and share in the adventure. On top of that, we were spoiled with fantastic Mexican food and even cake to top it off. Communities like this remind us how special this ride is, bringing people together through history, machines, and passion.

Tomorrow may bring our first real rain and some colder weather. But if there’s one thing we know about this group, it’s that toughness is second nature. Onward to the next stage!
