Norm Nelson

I’ve always loved old motorcycles. My first bike was a ’67 T100R Triumph Daytona. My favorite bike is my ’58 XLH Sportster 883, which I bought as a basket case in 1971. After about 200,000 miles, including two trips to Alaska and back, the ’58 is still my favorite. I had lots of fun running a ’50 Norton 500 single, a ’56 DBD Gold Star single and a ’69 Triumph T100R in AHRMA for a number of years.

In 2012, I was asked by friends in Jacksonville, FL, Bill Robinson and Jack Wells, to ride Jack’s R-11 and R-52 in the 2012, 2014 and 2018 Cannonballs. I rode my 1911 Reading Standard in the 2016 Cannonball and it now resides at the Barber Museum. I’m looking forward to riding my current 1911 Reading Standard with The Band of Brothers and Sisters in the ’25 TransAmerican Motorcycle Endurance Run.

Big thanks to all you outstanding folks who created The TransAm for us folks who love to see America from the back roads on our 100-year-old motorcycles!!!
